Prabowo Set to Discuss Gaza Evacuation Plan in Middle East Talks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is set to hold talks with Palestinian leaders regarding the planned evacuation of a thousand Gaza refugees to Indonesia. He noted that the evacuation date is still under discussion and will be coordinated with the Palestinian side.

"Later, I will meet with leaders from Palestine to discuss how the implementation will be," Prabowo said while attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Turkey, on April 11, 2025, according to his official statement.

Prabowo denies the plan to evacuate Gaza refugees as a relocation. He stated that the idea of evacuating Gaza refugees is an offer from the Indonesian government to help the humanitarian issues faced by the Palestinian community.

Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that relocating the residents of Gaza, Palestine, to Indonesia is not permanent. He emphasized that they will return to Gaza when the situation has improved.

According to Sugiono, the evacuation is carried out to ensure the safety of children and pregnant women. He stated that this action is carried out as a form of humanity.

"Everyone must agree. So, do not frame the Gaza relocation as permanent, but to help our Gaza brethren, orphaned children there," he said in Turkey, as monitored via the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Sugiono stated that the evacuation also needs approval from several countries with an interest in the peace process in Palestine.

Therefore, Prabowo will present the plan to evacuate Gaza residents during his visit to several Middle Eastern countries. Prabowo will consult on efforts to assist the Palestinian community.
