TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian President and also the Chair of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, gathered members of the House of Representatives (DPR) from his party at his residence on Kertanegara IV Street, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta on Monday night, September 8, 2025. In the closed-door meeting, Prabowo instructed the Gerindra faction members in the DPR not to flaunt their wealth, or flexing.
According to the Secretary General of Gerindra, Sugiono, who also attended the meeting, Prabowo asked the Gerindra DPR members to be mindful of their words and behavior. "Maintain a modest lifestyle, avoid causing harm to the people, and be a good representation," Sugiono said after leaving Prabowo's residence.
Sugiono mentioned that Prabowo also urged party members not to be arrogant or show off their wealth. "The term is flexing, it's pointless," said the Foreign Minister in Prabowo's cabinet.
Furthermore, Sugiono stated that Prabowo also requested Gerindra legislators to support the government's programs, especially as Prabowo's administration is nearing its one-year mark.
Sugiono added that Prabowo also asked party members to follow up on various messages conveyed by the public. In recent weeks, there have been demonstrations highlighting the government and DPR's performance. However, Sugiono did not disclose any other directives from Prabowo.
"As we all know, our Chairman delivered some directions to the DPR faction members as a follow-up to the messages conveyed by the public," he said.
When asked if the meeting also discussed the Asset Seizure Bill, Sugiono mentioned that this meeting mainly focused on internal party matters. "It did not delve into more than what I have conveyed," he said.
Meanwhile, DPR member from the Gerindra faction, Ahmad Dhani, stated that Prabowo gave numerous directives in the meeting. One of them was for party members to avoid flexing. "I just nodded along, as I never flex," Dhani said after leaving Prabowo's residence.
The meeting at Prabowo's residence was attended by Gerindra legislators in the DPR, including Ahmad Muzani, Rahayu Saraswati, Habiburokhman, Bob Hasan, Mulan Jameela, and Ahmad Dhani.
