TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto reminded law enforcement institutions, including the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police, not to fabricate or criminalize non-existent cases for any reason.
Prabowo delivered the message while witnessing the handover of Rp13 trillion in seized assets from three major palm oil corporations, namely Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group, at the Attorney General’s Office on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The funds were confiscated in connection with an alleged corruption case involving crude palm oil (CPO) export facilities.
“I keep reminding prosecutors and the police not to criminalize something that doesn’t exist, for whatever motive,” Prabowo said. “The Attorney General’s Office must also engage in self-correction.”
Calls for Justice and Compassion
Prabowo revealed that he still receives reports of regional prosecutors fabricating cases against ordinary citizens. He warned officials not to add to the burdens of those already struggling.
The President cited examples of an elementary school student arrested for stealing a chicken and a mother detained for taking wood from a tree.
“Law enforcement officials must have compassion. Don’t be sharp toward the weak and blunt toward the powerful. That is cruel, that is injustice. Evil!” Prabowo said. “The small and the poor must be protected and supported.”
Prabowo added that in the case of the student, he instructed officials to personally compensate for the stolen chicken. He said the child had been invited to his residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, where he received a scholarship.
“I believe incidents like this no longer happen, at least I hope so,” Prabowo said. “But remember, our people are now smart and have access to technology. If something happens, they can record it and report directly to the President.”
Rp13 Trillion Handed Over from Palm Oil Corruption Case
During the event, the Attorney General’s Office officially handed over Rp13 trillion recovered from the corruption case involving Wilmar Group, Permata Hijau Group, and Musim Mas Group.
The Supreme Court had earlier overturned a ruling by the Jakarta Corruption Court that acquitted the three corporations.
The companies were accused of colluding in the submission of export permits to the Ministry of Trade. Prosecutors alleged that Wilmar Group was required to pay Rp11.8 trillion in compensation, consisting of Rp1.65 trillion in state financial losses and Rp8.52 trillion in business and household sector losses.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the total compensation to be paid by Wilmar, Musim Mas, and Permata Hijau amounts to Rp17 trillion, meaning Rp4 trillion is still outstanding.
