TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Agam Regency in West Sumatra is still at risk of flash flooding. This disaster struck the Maninjau area in the Tanjung Raya District on Sunday, December 28, 2025, following heavy rains that had been pouring since the afternoon.

The Head of the Agam Regency Communication and Information Office, Roza Syafdefianti, stated that residents had to evacuate again to mitigate the more severe impact. "We are still comprehensively assessing the extent of the damage," he said when contacted by Tempo on Sunday afternoon. He confirmed that these subsequent flash floods did not cause any casualties or injuries.

Based on the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of December 25, 2025, the total number of fatalities from the series of disasters in West Sumatra has reached 261. There are still 72 people declared missing, and 382 people have been injured.

Currently, 16 regencies and cities in West Sumatra are still affected by the disaster. Agam Regency is one of the areas with the highest number of refugees, reaching around 4,300 people. Since December 22, 2025, the Agam Regency government has extended the emergency response period by 14 days.

The infrastructure damage there is also significant. A total of 12,323 housing units were damaged to varying degrees, from minor to severe. The BNPB also noted that 532 public facilities, 364 educational facilities, 150 places of worship, 178 bridges, 28 office buildings, and 18 health facilities were damaged.

The government is currently expediting the construction of temporary shelters for the refugees. BNPB is constructing 117 temporary housing units in the SDN 05 Kayu Pasak (elementary school) field. The number of personnel has been doubled to expedite the completion. Weather modification operations are still being intensified to reduce the intensity of rain in disaster-prone areas.

When the subsequent flash floods hit, Agam Regency was also struck by two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.6 and 4.7. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), they have recorded 17 aftershocks from December 28 until this morning, Monday, December 29, 2025.
