Ruben Amorim's Future Uncertain After Manchester United Lost Europa League Final

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester manager Ruben Amorim stated that he will not demand compensation from the management if they decide to fire him. He is resigned to the fact that the Manchester United board may decide he is not the right person for the job.

Amorim is entitled to compensation if he is dismissed. The Portuguese coach still has two years remaining on his contract since his appointment in November 2024.

However, Amorim has promised not to leave empty-handed. "I have nothing else to show to the fans. So, at this point, I only have a little confidence," he was quoted as saying by ESPN.

Manchester United's performances have not improved since his arrival. He has only managed to guide MU to six victories in the English Premier League in the last six months. He always asks the fans to believe in him. "We'll see. I am always open. If the board and the fans feel I am not the right person, I will go the next day without discussing compensation, but I won't quit."

"I am truly confident in my work. And as you can see, I will not change anything in the way I do things," said the 40-year-old coach who previously found success with Sporting CP.

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Brennan Johnson's goal before halftime in the match at San Mames, Bilbao, in the early hours of Thursday, May 22, 2025. Amorim's team had 16 shots but struggled to create meaningful chances.

Micky van de Ven cleared Rasmus Hojlund's header off the goal line. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario also made a brilliant save from Luke Shaw in injury time.

Despite United's failure to score in the game, Amorim argued that his players were better than Spurs. "I will not speak about the future, tonight we have to face the pain of losing this match," Amorim said.

"We are clearly the better team, but we managed to not score again. The players gave everything to win the game. We will evaluate in the future," he added.
