TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Soekarno-Hatta Special Class I Immigration Office has begun testing its latest innovation in immigration services: the seamless corridor or automatic corridor gate. This system uses an automatic process that allows passengers to pass through directly without any physical or procedural obstacles.
The corridor gate has been installed at Terminal 2F and Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport to streamline passenger services. Due to its rapid processing speed, this device is expected to significantly reduce congestion in the airport’s immigration area.
"Currently, we are testing it on passengers with special needs," said Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office, Galih Priya Kartika Perdhana, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
Galih stated that the corridor gate is part of an integrated immigration service ecosystem designed to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for arriving passengers. "Passengers do not need to prepare physical documents or have direct interaction with the device. Everything operates automatically, efficiently, and remains secure," he said.
According to Galih, the device was first successfully used to support the return service of Hajj pilgrims in 2025 at Terminal 2F, demonstrating its capability to manage long queues and passenger density.
Seamless Corridor Gate vs. Autogate: Two Seconds vs. Ten
The corridor gate is a more advanced system than the standard autogate and is claimed to serve passengers much quicker. Galih explained that the main differences between the two systems are in the method of operation, speed, and user interaction.
"With autogate, passengers still need to insert their passport and undergo a separate facial or fingerprint scan. The process takes about 8 to 10 seconds per passenger," said Galih.
Meanwhile, passengers simply walk slowly through the corridor. The automatic system performs facial identification using high-level biometric technology without requiring a stop or document preparation. "The clearance time is only about two seconds, without needing to stop," explained Galih.
Currently, two seamless corridor units have been installed at Terminal 2F and Terminal 3. Immigration plans to expand the installation to all arrival and departure terminals to support the digital transformation of public services and the government's vision for seamless, human-centered services.
As a precaution, manual counters and autogates are still provided as alternative routes for passengers who are not yet registered in the biometric system or who experience technical constraints. "We want to provide options that make it easier for all user levels. With the seamless corridor, immigration services can be much faster and more efficient," said Galih.
From January to October 2025, the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration Office served over 15 million arriving and departing passengers. Out of that number, 60 percent of the passengers utilized the existing autogates.
