TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as the finance minister in a cabinet reshuffle announced on Monday evening, September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani who had served since the era of former President Joko Widodo.
Prior to becoming the finance minister, Purbaya had worked under the Chair of the National Economic Council and Presidential Special Advisor on Investment Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan. Luhut is a retired Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) officer who held several strategic positions in the government.
Purbaya has been involved in the government since the era of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. During the 2010-2014 period, Purbaya served as Special Staff for Economic Affairs to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs.
Before entering the government, Purbaya began his career as a Field Engineer at Schlumberger Overseas SA from 1989 to 1994. Then, from 2000 to 2005, he served as a Senior Economist at the Danareksa Research Institute.
Purbaya then held the position of President Director of PT Danareksa Sekuritas from 2006 to 2008, and subsequently as Chief Economist of the Danareksa Research Institute from 2005 to 2003. In 2013, he became a member of the Board of Directors of PT Danareksa (Persero).
Since 2020, Purbaya has served as the Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the LPS. According to LPS's official website, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology. Purbaya also holds a Master of Science and a doctorate in Economics from Purdue University, Indiana, United States.
Along with Purbaya, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated four ministers and one deputy minister in a swearing-in ceremony at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday evening, September 8, 2025.
The ministers and deputy minister were inaugurated based on Presidential Decree Number 86 of 2025. This decree appointed Mochamad Irfan Yusuf as the Minister of Hajj and Umrah; Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak as the Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah; Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as the Finance Minister; Mukhtarudin as the Minister of the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI); and Ferry Juliantono as the Minister of Cooperatives.
