1. ICC Condemns U.S. Sanctions on Its Officials as Attack on Judicial Independence
The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday condemned new U.S. sanctions against four of its officials, calling the action a direct assault on judicial independence and the global rules-based order.
"The International Criminal Court deplores the announcement of new designations for sanctions by the US administration against ICC Judges Kimberly Prost (Canada), Judge Nicolas Guillou (France), Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan (Fiji) and Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang (Senegal)," the ICC said in its statement.
The U.S. decision extends previous sanctions on ICC judges and prosecutors. According to the ICC, the sanctions are "a flagrant attack against the independence of an impartial judicial institution which operates under the mandate from 125 States Parties from all regions."
2. BMKG's Weather Forecast: Drizzles to Wet Parts of Greater Jakarta Today
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts mostly cloudy weather in the majority of the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta) areas today, Friday, August 22, 2025. But some areas are expecting drizzles.
According to BMKG's weather forecast, Greater Jakarta is expected to be partly cloudy and overcast early Friday. As dawn rises, light rain is likely to fall in the Seribu Islands. The BMKG team recorded air humidity levels in the region today to range from 60 to 90 percent.
In the morning, light rain is expected to continue wetting the Seribu Islands, while other parts of Jakarta will remain overcast. Later in the day, drizzles are expected in West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
3. Indonesia to Overhaul Occupational Safety Certification Process Following KPK Raid
Indonesian Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, announced an evaluation of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) or K3 certification process. The decision comes in response to allegations that several officials within the Ministry have been extorting companies during the certification process.
"In the future, no individuals in the Ministry of Manpower will be involved in corrupt practices or deviations in any form," Yassierli told journalists at his office in South Jakarta on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
This statement followed a sting operation conducted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) that nabbed Deputy Minister of Manpower, Immanuel Ebenezer, along with 19 others in the early hours of Thursday.
