Indonesia's National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) states that the ad-hoc team investigating alleged severe human rights violations in the case of the murder of activist Munir Said Thalib has thus far examined 18 witnesses. This pro-justice investigation is being carried out in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 26 of 2000 concerning Human Rights Courts.

2. Indonesia's Rupiah Strengthens as US Non-Farm Payroll Data Weakens

Currency analyst at Doo Financial Futures, Lukman Leong, said the strengthening of the exchange rate of the Indonesian rupiah was influenced by very weak US Non-Farm Payroll (NFP) data.

"The rupiah is expected to strengthen against the weakening US dollar quite sharply after the very disappointing US NFP employment data," he told Antara in Jakarta on Monday, September 8, 2025.

The exchange rate of the rupiah at the opening of trading on Monday in Jakarta strengthened by 48 points or 0.29 percent to Rp16,385 per US dollar from the previous Rp16,433 per US dollar.

The US was reported to have added only 22,000 jobs in August 2025, far below the estimated 75,000.

Furthermore, he continued, the jobs in June were actually revised down, losing 13,000 jobs compared to an addition of 14,000.

3. Kolese Gonzaga High School Reaffirms Students' Right to Participate in Indonesia's Democracy

The student community at Kolese Gonzaga High School asserts the right of students to voice their aspirations in Indonesia's democratic process. In their official statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025, they rejected the idea that students should not express their opinions in public spaces.

"Forms of participation such as social media campaigns, petition drives, and voicing aspirations are a tangible manifestation of freedom of expression protected by Article 28 Verse (3) of the 1945 Constitution," wrote the statement signed by the Head of Kolese Gonzaga High School, Peter Eduard C. Ratu Dopo, and the Senate Chair, Christopher Kana Cahyadi.

They expressed concern over the loss of lives and violence in the recent wave of protests, which was seen as arising from public dissatisfaction with the government, the House of Representatives (DPR), and law enforcement agencies.
