TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Traffic Police Corps (Korps Lalu Lintas Polri) predicts the exodus of Christmas and New Year holiday travelers will occur on January 4, 2025. The peak of the holiday return is expected to be delayed from the previous estimation due to the implementation of the "work from anywhere" (WFA) policy.
"With the WFA policy, there is a shift in the holiday return flow. What was initially planned for January 2 may possibly shift to January 4," said the Head of the Indonesian Traffic Police Corps, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, in a written statement on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Agus stated that 2.8 million vehicles are expected to return to Jakarta during the holiday peak. As a result, the Indonesian Traffic Police will increase personnel to monitor several strategic points with high vehicle volume.
According to Agus, they have prepared various traffic engineering scenarios, including contraflow and one-way traffic. "If the peak occurs on January 4, we have prepared all the scenarios," he said.
Meanwhile, the peak of the holiday exodus from Jakarta has already occurred on December 24, 2025. As of Friday, December 26, 2025, it was recorded that 1.36 million vehicles had left Jakarta. Agus mentioned that the Traffic Police will focus on reducing accidents until the turn of the year.
One of the measures taken is law enforcement against articulated vehicles or large trucks that violate regulations during the year-end period. Law enforcement is carried out through ticketing, warnings, and even removing vehicles from toll roads. "Articulated vehicles are only allowed to pass through arterial roads from 5:00 pm until early morning," he said.
Agus urged freight transport companies to comply with the regulations. This is done to improve safety during the year-end holiday season.
