TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of the United States Donald Trump announced that the Indonesian government has agreed to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft, most of which are the 777 model. He described the purchase as part of a trade agreement negotiated between the two countries.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating that he "finalized an important Deal with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with their Highly Respected President Prabowo Subianto. This landmark Deal opens up Indonesia's ENTIRE MARKET to the United States for the first time in History."
In addition to aircraft, Trump said Indonesia will import U.S. energy commodities worth US$15 billion, or around Rp 240 trillion, based on an exchange rate of Rp 16,000 per U.S. dollar. The deal also includes Indonesia’s purchase of U.S. agricultural products valued at US$4.5 billion, or about Rp 72 trillion.
He wrote, "As part of the Agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing $15 Billion Dollars in US Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777’s."
He further stated that one of the key outcomes of the agreement is the full opening of Indonesia’s market to U.S. goods. "For the first time ever, our Ranchers, Farmers, and Fishermen will have Complete and Total Access to the Indonesian Market of over 280 million people."
In exchange for Indonesia’s commitments, Trump decided to reduce the import tariff on Indonesian products to 19 percent, down from the previous rate of 32 percent. Meanwhile, U.S. exports to Indonesia will face no tariff or non-tariff barriers.
"Thank you to the People of Indonesia for your friendship and commitment to balancing our Trade Deficit. We will keep DELIVERING for the American people, and the People of Indonesia!" Trump wrote.
A few hours before the full announcement, Trump had revealed that the United States had reached a major agreement with Indonesia following direct talks with President Prabowo.
"Great deal, for everybody, just made with Indonesia. I dealt directly with their highly respected President," Trump wrote on his social media platform Tuesday morning.
Earlier, on Monday, July 7, 2025, Trump had announced on Truth Social that the U.S. would impose a 32 percent import tariff on Indonesian goods. The tariff had remained unchanged since it was first introduced in April.
Trump stated that the 32 percent tariff would take effect on Friday, August 1, 2025. He also indicated that the measure could be lifted if Indonesia agreed to invest in the United States and eliminate both tariff and non-tariff trade barriers.
