Trump Says Patriot Missiles for Ukraine en Route from Germany

6 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump said the Patriot missile systems for Ukraine are already being shipped from Germany. The shipment is part of a new deal within the framework of NATO, and the United States will be fully reimbursed.

“They're already being shipped. They're coming in from Germany and then replaced by Germany,” said Trump in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, July 16, 2025, as quoted from Anadolu.

Trump explained that the payment will be made through NATO or directly by the member countries of the European Union. "We’re not going to have any more investment to make. We’re getting our money back in full," he said.

U.S. Agreement with NATO

This announcement was made by Trump a day after his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office, Washington.

"We are going to be sending them (Ukrainians) weapons, and they are going to be paying for them. The US will not be having any payment made. We're not buying it, but we will manufacture it, and they're going to be paying for it," said Trump.

Mark Rutte confirmed the contents of the agreement. "The US has decided to indeed massively supply Ukraine with what is necessary through NATO. Europeans (are) 100% paying for that," said Rutte.

Previously, a spokesperson for the German government mentioned that European countries were discussing sending more than three Patriot missile systems to Ukraine.

Ukraine's Calls and Ultimatum to Russia

According to the Kyiv Independent report, the delivery of this defense system comes amid a rise in Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory. The Kyiv government continues to request additional air protection from Western allies, especially the United States.

Two days before the announcement of the weapon shipment, Trump also issued an ultimatum to Moscow. He warned that the United States would impose heavy tariffs if Russia did not agree to a peace deal within 50 days.

Trump also claimed that he had not spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the announcement of new sanctions by Washington on July 14.

He expressed his disappointment with the sluggish peace process. "I am disappointed in President Putin. I thought we would have had a deal two months ago, but it doesn’t seem to get there," he said.

Trump reiterated that the war in Ukraine did not start with his administration. "It wasn't my war. It's (former U.S. President) Joe Biden's war. I'm trying to get you out of it," he said.
