TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of workers, students, and civil society members will hold a demonstration in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) Building on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Approximately 3,000 people will begin crowding Jalan Gatot Subroto starting at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

The protesters will be drawn from the Coalition of Trade Unions and the Labor Party, numbering 3,000. They consist of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), the Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), the Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSBSI), and the Confederation of Indonesian Workers' Unions (KPBI).

Labor Party President Said Iqbal confirmed that the workers will hold a peaceful demonstration. He promised that the workers' demonstration will be orderly and non-anarchic. "I call for the August 28th demonstration to be peaceful, orderly, with no riots, and no violence," Said stated in a statement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Said stated that the labor protesters will bring six demands: the elimination of outsourcing and the rejection of low wages, an end to layoffs, labor tax reform, the ratification of the Employment Bill without the omnibus law, the ratification of the asset confiscation bill, and the revision of the Election Bill.

In addition to laborers, there will also be a protest called the People's Gathering for Climate Justice 2025. They will also demonstrate in front of the DPR/MPR Building. The crowd will number around 200 people. They are demanding Climate Justice 2025 and the ratification of the Climate Justice Bill.

Meanwhile, students and youth representatives include representatives from the Student Executive Board of Indraprasta University (PGRI), the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (SEMMI), the Islamic Student Association (HMI), the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta, and the National Anti-Corruption Forum (FANATIK). The total crowd was around 420 people.

They demanded: Disband the House of Representatives (DPR); pass the asset confiscation bill; clean the government from corruption, oligarchy, and dynastic politics; reject the commercialization of education; revoke DPR members' allowances; stop all forms of criminalization; and investigate and dismiss Sufmi Dasco, Deputy Speaker of the DPR and a Gerindra Party cadre, for his alleged involvement in an online gambling and casino scandal in Cambodia.

Police Urge Public to Seek Alternative Routes

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) urged the public to avoid Jalan Gatot Subroto. However, police did not divert traffic or implement traffic engineering.

"Police urge people who do not have business in the DPR area to seek alternative routes," said Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, in a written statement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Ade explained that the traffic diversion was situational. Diversions were implemented if crowds crowded the roads around the Parliament Complex, especially Jalan Gatot Subroto. "However, if it's still possible to share the road with other people, then no diversions will be implemented," said Ade Ary.

Ade Ary also apologized to the public for any potential inconvenience caused by the traffic engineering measures that may be implemented. "This measure is solely to ensure security, safety, and smooth traffic flow," he said.
