TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian immigration deported an American tourist with the initials MM (27 years old) who went berserk and damaged a clinic in Pecatu, Bali. The incident where the man went berserk and threatened staff and other patients went viral on social media.
The Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration Bali, Parlindungan, explained that the foreign national had violated several regulations. He violated Article 406 of the Indonesian Criminal Code regarding acts of vandalism, Article 75 paragraph (1) of the Immigration Law, and the Circular Letter of the Governor of Bali Number 7 Year 2025 concerning the New Arrangement for Foreign Tourists while in Bali.
"Based on these reasons, the perpetrator will be subject to immigration administrative measures in the form of deportation and restraint," said Parlindungan, quoted from an official statement on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
He stated that the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration Bali remains committed to enforcing the law. They also ensure that all foreign nationals in the Bali area comply with all applicable regulations and maintain public order.
Bali Governor I Wayan Koster expressed his concern and regretted the perpetrators' actions, who had damaged public facilities and created a sense of insecurity in the healthcare environment. However, the clinic is a place of protection. "Actions like this cannot be tolerated," said Koster.
Koster stated that there is no tolerance for foreign nationals who behave disruptively and disrupt order in the Bali area.
Chronology of the American Tourist's Rampage
According to the information from the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration Bali, a man with the initials MM went berserk at Nusa Medika Klinik Pratama located on Jalan Labuan Sait, Pecatu Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali. The incident occurred in the early morning of Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Based on the testimony of a clinic employee who worked as a clinic driver, the incident began when two foreign nationals arrived at the clinic, brought by an online taxi service.
One of the American tourists was unconscious. He was immediately taken to the examination room without any medical treatment because his condition did not allow it.
After the perpetrator regained consciousness, his friend approached him and tried to calm him down. However, the perpetrator became angry, went berserk, and even hit his friend, resulting in a fight inside the examination room.
His friend's efforts to calm MM failed. The perpetrator acted even more aggressively by damaging several clinic facilities and endangering other patients at the location.
The clinic's security contacted the Pecatu Village Civilian Security Officers (Linmas) and the Police to assist in handling. After the authorities arrived, the perpetrator was calmed down and admitted his mistake.
The perpetrator and the clinic management representative were taken to the South Kuta Police Station for questioning. After being questioned, the American tourist stated that he went berserk due to being startled and panicked upon seeing many unfamiliar people. However, after his friend reassured him that he was still in Bali and after fully regaining consciousness, the perpetrator apologized. MM also agreed to cover all the damages caused by his actions.
The Denpasar City Police then coordinated with the Special Class I Immigration Office, TPI Ngurah Rai. Based on immigration crossing data, the foreign national entered Indonesia through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport on April 2, 2025, using a Visa on Arrival. His Visit Stay Permit was valid until May 1, 2025. However, he had to be deported due to his actions.
