TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS) activist Andrie Yunus again failed to appear at a follow-up hearing in the acid attack case at Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as he remains hospitalized at Central Jakarta's Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM).
Presiding judge Colonel Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto asked prosecutors whether Andrie could be presented as a witness at the hearing.
“Are you able to bring Andrie Yunus as a witness?” Fredy asked during the trial.
Military prosecutors said they had coordinated with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), which informed them that Andrie was still not fit to testify in court as an additional witness.
Prosecutors also said they had sent a letter to RSCM requesting permission to visit Andrie, although the hospital had yet to respond formally. Despite this, prosecutors visited the hospital on Tuesday, May 12, but were unable to meet him.
“We understand Andrie Yunus’ condition and that after surgery he requires complete rest, so we left,” a prosecutor said.
Andrie’s legal team from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) reiterated its rejection of the military court proceedings.
“Andrie Yunus has consistently refused this process from the beginning until now,” TAUD representative Airlangga Julio told the court.
Airlangga also said the legal team had not received any formal summons from Military Prosecutor II-07 Jakarta or Military Court II-08 Jakarta regarding Andrie’s testimony. According to him, prosecutors only sent a request letter to LPSK.
He argued that the handling of the case reflected procedural flaws and bias against the victim.
“This shows that from the outset the military judicial apparatus did not understand proper law enforcement procedures and has been biased against the victim,” Airlangga said.
TAUD previously submitted a formal letter rejecting the military court process to Military Court II-08 in Cakung, East Jakarta, on Monday, May 11. TAUD representative Jane Rosalina Rumpia said the move was made at Andrie’s request because he does not trust the military court system.
Jane said Andrie had consistently opposed the case being tried in a military court because the acid attack constituted an ordinary criminal offense.
“We submitted this letter based on the rejection of a trial process that not only involves military personnel but also concerns the ordinary criminal offense experienced by Andrie Yunus,” she said.
The attack on Andrie occurred on Talang Street in Central Jakarta on March 12, 2026, at around 11:37 PM He sustained severe injuries to several parts of his body, including his hands, face, chest, and eye area. Initial medical assessments found that he suffered burns covering 24 percent of his body.
