TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - More than a dozen Apple devices that were once popular have been discontinued to make way for future devices. The tech giant unveiled several new products last week, including the iPhone 17e and the more advanced MacBook laptop.

Apple launched the new iPhone 17e on March 3rd for US$599, with the same price as the previous budget phone but with double the storage. "iPhone 17e combines powerful performance and features our users love at an exceptional value, making it a compelling option for customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone 17 family," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's Vice President of iPhone Product Marketing, as quoted by Daily Mail.

As part of the launch, Apple quietly discontinued several older devices from its product lineup. However, some devices in the latest group to be discontinued were only two years old.

Among this new group were the iPhone 16e powered by the A18 chip, the 11-inch and 13-inch models of the iPad Air with M3 processors, and the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air featuring Apple's M4 chip, all released in 2025.

Several MacBook Pro configurations have also been discontinued, including the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip and 512GB of storage, along with several models of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro equipped with the M4 Pro and M4 Max processors introduced in 2024.

Apple's professional desktop lineup has also not been spared, with the Mac Studio powered by the M3 Ultra chip and 512GB of memory also appearing on the list of discontinued products.

These changes also extend to Apple display products, including the Studio Display with the A13 Bionic chip, first released in 2022, and the premium Pro Display XDR released in 2019. Both have been replaced with the new Studio Display XDR and an updated base display model.

Accessories related to these displays, including the Pro Stand and Pro Display XDR VESA Mount Adapter, have also been removed from Apple's active product lineup.

This move aims to replace older devices with updated versions as part of its latest product refresh. The iPhone 16e has been discontinued to pave the way for the newly announced iPhone 17e, while the M3-powered iPad Air has been replaced by newer models running Apple's latest M4 chip.

The same transition has occurred with the MacBook Air lineup, where the previous M4 models have been gradually discontinued to support the updated versions featuring the latest M5 processor from Apple.

One unexpected change is the discontinuation of the 512GB MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, introduced by Apple in October 2025 with a starting price of US$1,599. The company has replaced it with a new base configuration including 1TB of internal storage and a slightly higher starting price of US$1,699.

It is still unclear whether these changes are related to broader supply pressures affecting memory and storage components across the tech industry, which have forced some manufacturers to adjust their configurations.

Here are the discontinued Apple devices in numerical order, according to MacRumors:

  1. iPhone 16e (A18 chip, 2025)

  2. iPad Air 11inch (M3) (2025)
