TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has been rumored to be developing its first foldable iPhone for the past year, and the latest leaks suggest the device could be named the iPhone Ultra.
According to Gizmochina on Tuesday, April 7, the information comes from tech leaker Digital Chat Station on social media platform Weibo, who claimed that Apple’s foldable will feature a wide-format display and may carry the “Ultra” branding.
While unconfirmed, the name alone signals a direct challenge to competitors in the foldable smartphone market.
The leak also notes that several Chinese smartphone manufacturers are reportedly considering using the “Ultra” label for their own wide-fold devices. No specific brands were mentioned, but speculation has already circulated online, with potential names like Huawei Pura Ultra 2 or Xiaomi MIX Fold Ultra being discussed in forums.
Although unofficial, the idea is not entirely unrealistic given current naming trends.
The term “wide foldable” is notable, aligning with earlier reports about Huawei’s upcoming model, possibly called Pura X2, which is said to feature a 7.69-inch (19.53 cm) WQHD+ main display with a wider aspect ratio, and a 5.5-inch (13.97 cm) external screen. The design aims to enhance usability both when folded and unfolded.
Other rumored features include a newer Kirin 9030 series chip and an improved telephoto camera, although details remain scarce.
As for Apple, the foldable iPhone is still expected to launch in the second half of 2026. Attention is focused not only on hardware but also on how Apple might handle software optimization and durability compared to its competitors.
If the “Ultra” branding is confirmed, it would position the foldable device at the top tier of Apple’s product lineup in terms of both features and price. This also underscores a broader trend: foldables are increasingly moving into the premium segment, with “Ultra” likely becoming the next sought-after label across brands.
