TEMPO.COJakarta - The Secretariat General of Indonesia's DPR (House of Representatives) has urged its employees to work from home (WFH) today, Thursday, August 28, 2025. The appeal was made to anticipate the protest of laborers in front of the Senayan parliamentary complex, Jakarta.

In the Circular Letter of the Secretariat General of the Indonesian House of Representatives numbered 2797/SEKJEN/08/2025 dated August 27, 2025, it is stated that all employees within the Secretariat General of the House of Representatives are to work from home today.

The letter states that employees with important and urgent tasks are still required to report to the DPR office. However, employees without direct assignments are given the flexibility to carry out their official duties from their residence.

Tempo sought to contact the Secretary General of the DPR, Indra Iskandar, to confirm the WFH policy due to the labor demonstration. However, Indra has not responded to the questions at the time of writing.

Vice Chairman of the DPR's Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, confirmed the work-from-home recommendation for DPR employees. According to him, the policy emerged after a demonstration by several elements of society on Monday, August 25, 2025, which made it difficult for employees to leave the parliamentary complex.

Sahroni stated that the DPR does not want that situation to recur. "Returning home is complicated, it's difficult to go anywhere. That's why WFH is recommended," Sahroni said when confirmed on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

The demonstration at the House of Representatives today was organized by the Labor Party, labor unions, and several other elements of society. The President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, stated that the demonstration will be conducted peacefully. "I call for the demonstration on August 28 to be peaceful, orderly, without any disturbances or violence," Said said in a written statement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

The laborers brought six demands, including the abolition of outsourcing, rejection of low wages, cessation of layoffs, and acceleration of the discussion of the Manpower Employment Bill and the Asset Seizure Bill.

Said urged the government to increase the 2026 minimum wage by 8.5-10 percent. The labor group also rejects termination of employment and demands the abolition of the outsourcing system.

Subsequently, they demand tax reform. According to him, the current tax system has burdened workers and the people.
