Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport Hit with Hour-Long Power Outage

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bali distribution unit (IUD) of Indonesian electricity company (PLN) explained the cause of the one-hour-long blackout at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 06:13 p.m. to 07:18 p.m. local time.

"The UP2D (Distribution Operating Unit) team detected a load reduction on two feeders supplying the international terminal," said the Bali PLN IUD general maanger Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho in his statement in Denpasar as quoted by Antara, Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to Eric, the Ngurah Rai Airport's power is supplied through five active feeders designed with a high level of reliability to ensure the continuity of supply to the entire area, both domestic and international terminals. The system as a whole, Eric said, is in safe condition and there are no disturbances.

But PLN still conducted a quick field inspection to ensure that all supply lines were operating normally.

After receiving reports of a power outage at Ngurah Rai Airport, officers rushed to the location and conduct technical coordination with airport management.

"Our team swiftly coordinated and ensured that the supply could be restored promptly. At 09:00 p.m. local time, power supplies in the Ngurah Rai Airport have all returned to normal," he said.

Eric said PLN works to bolster coordination with the management of the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport. As one of the vital national objects, the airport is a pivotal hub for the economy and tourism sectors Bali, which requires reliable and a guarantee of reliable and uninterrupted electrical power.

"We are committed to maintaining the reliability of the electricity system in all vital national objects, including airports. Coordination and preparedness of personnel are the key to ensuring optimal services," said Eric.

Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the airport's general manager, expressed apologies for the incident in his official statement. During the power outage, PLN ensured that efforts were made to adjust some services, such as manual check-in processes.

Service adjustments were also made by preparing special personnel in the waiting area to direct passengers to the boarding gates.

Several flights were affected by the power outage at the Bali airport, but Ahmad said officers are still gathering the data.
