TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) has withdrawn information about the protest planned for Friday, August 29, 2025. Fatin Humairo, Coordinator of the Women's Forum of BEM SI for the BSJB region (covering Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and South Tangerang), stated that the planned action on that date has been canceled. Instead, BEM SI will hold the protest in early September 2025.

"We are still trying to rearrange. The plan is for early September. The exact date is not yet fixed," said Fatin when contacted on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

According to BEM SI, the schedule change was made due to concerns that the August 29 protest could be exploited by certain parties. "Because the protest on the 28th or 29th in the capital is vulnerable to exploitation by certain interests, and there are other considerations, so we are still trying to rearrange," said Fatin.

Currently, BEM SI is still consolidating. As of Wednesday night, August 27, 2025, students have not yet determined the agenda for the Indonesia Cemas 2025 (Indonesia is anxious) protest.

Previously, BEM SI had confirmed that they would take to the streets on August 29, 2025. The BEM SI's decision differed from that of labor and other student groups, who planned to hold demonstrations on August 28. According to Fatin, the decision was made through a process of consolidation deliberations.

Fatin explained that this time BEM SI's protest will carry the theme Indonesia Cemas 2025, continuing the series of actions on July 28. Nine demands are still being pursued, plus two new points. "We reject the practice of dual function positions and urge the ratification of the Asset Seizure Bill," she said.

It is noteworthy that the 9 previous demands Fatin referred to are:

  1. Review Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 1 of 2025, which focuses on spending efficiency in the implementation of the State Budget (APBN) and Regional Budget (APBD) for the 2025 fiscal year.
  2. Transparency of development status and taxation of the people
  3. Large-scale evaluation of free nutritious meals
  4. Reject problematic Mineral and Coal Mining Law revisions
  5. Reject the dual function of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI)
  6. Ratify the Asset Seizure Act
  7. Improve the national education and health quality
  8. Reject impunity and settle serious human rights violations
  9. Reject Jokowi's maneuvering in Prabowo Subianto's administration.
