TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rain has continued from last night into this morning across several areas in Jabodetabek.

According to a weather forecast by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the chance of rainfall remains high throughout most of Jakarta and its surrounding regions today, Friday, August 8, 2025.

BMKG reports that East Jakarta is the only area in the capital not expected to receive rain, with conditions predicted to be partly cloudy. Other areas have the potential for light rainfall.

In the surrounding regions, Bekasi Regency and Depok City are also forecast to be partly cloudy. Meanwhile, Bogor Regency and City, Tangerang Regency and City, and Bekasi City are expected to experience light rain. South Tangerang City is predicted to see moderate to possibly heavy rainfall.

On Tuesday, Erma Yulihastin, a researcher from the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), said that increased rainfall in Jabodetabek and the western part of Java is expected to continue through the second ten-day period of August.

“Rainfall will continue to increase due to the dynamics of 90S, which has weakened and will later form again,” she said, referring to the tropical cyclone seed that formed in the Indian Ocean southwest of Bengkulu earlier this month.

As of Thursday morning, BMKG reported that the 90S disturbance was no longer being monitored. However, the agency noted the emergence of a new tropical disturbance, labeled 96W, in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines. This system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to parts of North Kalimantan.
