TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, that the ceasefire supported by the United States in Gaza is still in place. This statement came after local authorities reported that at least 90 Palestinian residents were killed in Israeli attacks, 26 of whom were children.
Israel launched attacks in Gaza on Tuesday after it accused the resistance group Hamas of violating the ceasefire. This is the latest violation by Israel following a three-week agreement mediated by Trump.
Gaza health authorities, as reported by Al Jazeera, stated that the attacks killed at least 90 people, including at least 42 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks in central Gaza, 31 in northern Gaza, and 18 in southern Gaza.
Earlier reports also mentioned five people killed in a house struck in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, four in a building in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, and five in a car in Khan Younis.
"As I understand it, they took out an Israeli soldier," Trump told reporters on Air Force One, defending Israel as quoted by CNA.
"So the Israelis hit back and they should hit back. When that happens, they should hit back."
"Nothing is going to jeopardise" the ceasefire, Trump said. "You have to understand Hamas is a very small part of peace in the Middle East, and they have to behave.”
Israeli drone attacks continued into the early hours of Wednesday in the Gaza Strip, according to eyewitnesses.
Israeli military did not immediately comment on the attacks, which followed a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office saying that he had ordered immediate "powerful attacks."
The statement did not provide specific reasons for the attacks, but an Israeli military official claimed that Hamas violated the ceasefire by launching attacks on Israeli forces in the Israeli-controlled enclave.
The US-backed ceasefire deal came into effect on October 10, ending a two-year genocidal war Israel launched on the enclave after a Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
"If they (Hamas) are good, they are going to be happy and if they are not good, they are going to be terminated, their lives will be terminated," Trump said.
"Nobody knows what happened to the Israeli soldier but they say it was sniper fire. And it was retribution for that, and I think they have a right to do that," claimed Trump.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli media reported a firefight between Israeli forces and Hamas fighters in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. The Israeli military did not respond to requests for comment on the reports.
Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on Israeli forces in Rafah. The group also stated in a release that they remained committed to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
The attacks on Tuesday in Gaza City followed what Israel claimed was a targeted attack on Saturday against an individual in central Gaza who allegedly planned to attack Israeli forces.
