TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Chinese military is developing a nearly invisible, mosquito-sized bionic robot for military operations. Researchers from the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) laboratory in Hunan, China, are developing this new technology.
Citing the South China Morning Post, the robot was showcased in a video on the BiliBili platform on the China Central Television (CCTV) channel. A NUDT student, Liang Hexiang, held the robot at the tip of his finger.
"Here in my hand is a mosquito-like type of robot. Miniature bionic robots like this one are especially suited to information reconnaissance and special missions on the battlefield," he said in the video uploaded on Friday, June 20, 2025.
In the circulated video, the robot also appeared to still be in the refinement stage by the research team. Its body seemed to be shaped like a black-colored block, its head portion resembling a small camera, and its back portion having a tail that likely functions as an antenna.
With yellow-colored wing parts, this tiny robot is larger than a real mosquito. So far, NUDT has not detailed the specifications of the mosquito robot.
In the displayed video, several military-clad workers were also seen tending to humanoid robots. These robots also appeared to be undergoing training to mimic human motor movements.
