TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Investment Management Agency Danantara Indonesia is interested in acquiring a 30 percent stake in each Waste-to-Energy Processing (PSEL) project. Chief Investment Officer of Danantara Indonesia, Pandu Sjahrir, stated that the percentage may vary for each project.

"We mentioned at least 30 percent, but we are happy to take 51 percent or more, because solving environmental issues is the most important aspect," he said during an interview at Wisma Danantara Indonesia building on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Pandu mentioned that ownership percentage could be further discussed if there are parties interested in obtaining more than 50 percent. Ownership consideration also takes into account the economic potential of electricity sales from waste processing.

According to Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 109 of 2025 concerning urban waste management through waste-to-energy processing (PSEL), the State Electricity Company (PLN) will purchase electricity at US$0.20 per kWh. "To generate good economic returns, the projects must be timely and within the budget," Pandu stated.

Previously, the Chief Executive Officer of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, mentioned that seven regions were ready for the PSEL project development. Danantara will hold shares in all waste-to-energy projects to ensure their smooth and proper operation. "So comprehensively, it is ready to be executed," Rosan said, as quoted by Antara on Friday, October 24, 2025.

As is known, PT Danantara Investment Management (Persero) announced the selection of 24 companies from China and Japan as the Developers and Managers of waste-to-energy projects (BUPP PSEL). They emerged victorious after competing with 200 entities interested in undertaking the projects.

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, they will participate in a simultaneous tender for the provision of waste-to-energy technology. The 24 foreign companies may collaborate with local state-owned enterprises, regional-owned enterprises, and private entities to form a consortium.
