TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's men's singles badminton star, Jonatan Christie, wrapped up his European tour by claiming the Hylo Open 2025 title. He defeated Denmark's representative, Magnus Johannesen, in straight sets 21-14, 21-14 in the final match at Saarlandhalle, Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
The 45-minute-long match showcased Jonatan's dominance from the middle of the first set. After trailing 0-4, the 28-year-old gradually found his rhythm through precise net control and swift attacks. He closed the first set with a 21-14 win.
In the second set, Jonatan displayed a more stable performance. His early 4-0 lead and 11-6 advantage at the interval were never truly challenged by his opponent. With composed and efficient gameplay, Jonatan secured the second set with an identical score of 21-14.
This victory adds to Jonatan's impressive record throughout 2025. The Hylo Open title marks his third title of the season after the Suwon Victor Korea Open and Victor Denmark Open.
In the two previous tournaments, Jonatan defeated two prominent names: Anders Antonsen in Korea and Shi Yu Qi in Denmark. "Today I was cautious and anticipated the opponent's fairly fast footwork, so I was ready in terms of strategy," said Jonatan after the match, as quoted from PBSI's official statement.
He said clinching three titles in the last four tournaments was a significant blessing. "Especially after the tough period since leaving the national training camp and still undergoing the injury recovery process," he said.
Jonatan admitted that his performance in this European tour has exceeded his own expectations. "My focus was only to play optimally and enjoy each match," he stated.
With this victory, Jonatan Christie strengthens his position at the fifth spot in the world rankings.
