Disney Adventure Sets Sail: A Look at the Iconic Float-Out Tradition

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Disney Adventure, Disney Cruise Line’s latest cruise ship, held its traditional float-out ceremony on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The traditional ceremony occurred at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, where the ship was being built.

Float-out is when the ship is launched into the water for the first time. Carefully guided by tugboats, Disney Adventure was released from the enclosed hall where it had been built, heading toward the shipyard’s harbor. The one-hour process is considered a significant milestone in the ship’s construction.

Finally, Disney Adventure transitioned into open waters for the first time. Symbolically, the float-out marks a special moment. It signifies the ship’s first step into the outside world and brings the ship one step closer to its ultimate goal: sailing the oceans.

In Disney tradition, Captain Mickey Mouse and Captain Minnie Mouse greeted the ship as it glided out of the enclosed hall. Visitors also greeted the ship with excitement, followed by a fireworks display to conclude the celebration.

Disney Adventure is now at the shipyard’s harbor. As stated in a written statement received by Tempo, there are still several tasks to complete the various passenger facilities on the ship. This includes installing the signature Disney Cruise Line funnel on top of the boat and the yellow lifeboats on its sides, and testing the Marvel Landing's Ironcycle, which will be featured on the upper deck.

Disney Adventure's Maiden Voyage

Disney Adventure will dock and operate from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre in Singapore for at least five years. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for December 15, 2025. In a virtual media update in June 2024, Sarah Fox, Vice President and Regional General Manager of Disney Cruise Line Asia, stated that Singapore was chosen as the primary departure point due to the country's blend of modern wonders with rich traditions and culture. She said Singapore holds a perfect position as a bustling cruise hub in Asia, with world-class connectivity and top-tier port infrastructure.

The 208,000-ton ship is expected to carry 6,700 passengers with an estimated 2,500 crew members. A three-day, four-night cruise on this ship will take tourists through seven themed areas centered around imagination, discovery, and fantasy.

As with other signature Disney cruise vacations, guests can meet beloved Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Marvel superheroes, and many more. In addition to meeting iconic characters, guests will be entertained with live stage performances accompanied by music and Disney characters, signature Disney programs, and the premiere of Disney films.

Disney Cruise Line was first launched in 1998 with the ship Disney Magic. Currently, five cruise ships are operating across the United States, the Caribbean, Europe, the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand. These ships are Disney Magic, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder, and Disney Wish. In addition to the newly launched Disney Adventure, two more boats are currently under construction.
