TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two pieces of content containing claims of tidal flooding and tsunami threats in Lampung Province are circulating on TikTok and Facebook [archive]. The narrative states that the disaster will strike between December 3 and 9, 2025.
On TikTok, a video shows a man predicting the arrival of a tsunami in Lampung. On Facebook, the warning is claimed to originate from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

However, is it true that BMKG predicted tidal flooding and a tsunami in Lampung Province in December 2025?
FACT CHECK
Tempo verified this claim by analyzing news reports, the BMKG website, and other credible sources. The results show that the BMKG did issue a warning about the potential for tidal flooding, but never predicted a tsunami during that period. To date, there is no technology capable of predicting the timing of earthquakes and tsunamis.

The man who predicted the tsunami in South Lampung was Hard Gumay. The video was originally aired on the Langit Entertainment YouTube channel. Although the original content has been deleted, digital traces in the form of screenshots are still stored, one of which is on the Kabar Jabar website.
According to data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, there was no tsunami disaster in Lampung in 2021.
BMKG Warning About Flooding, Not a Tsunami
The BMKG only issued a warning regarding the potential for tidal flooding in southern Lampung, as reported by Lampost.co. The agency never issued a tsunami warning for the period of December 3-9, 2025.
Amalia Khoirunnisa, a forecaster at the Panjang Bandar Lampung Maritime Meteorological Station, predicted that tidal flooding would occur from December 3 to 9, 2025. The supermoon phenomenon—when the moon is closest to Earth—causes sea water to rise onto land. Areas that could be affected include the coasts of Bandar Lampung, Tanggamus, South Lampung, Pesawaran, and the east and west coasts of Lampung.
News about the tsunami prediction in December 2025 spread widely in Sumatra after floods and landslides occurred in late November 2025.
The BMKG wrote that tsunamis are different from tidal floods. Tsunamis are caused by a number of factors, namely strong earthquakes, underwater landslides, volcanic eruptions, and falling meteors. To date, no country has been able to predict the occurrence of earthquakes.
CONCLUSION
Based on verification, Tempo concludes that the narrative regarding the tsunami prediction along the Lampung coast from December 3 to 9, 2025, is false. The BMKG has only announced the potential for tidal flooding during that period.
