TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The subsidiary of flagship carrier Garuda Indonesia, PT Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia Tbk (GMF), has inked a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in utilizing aircraft maintenance facilities at Pondok Cabe Airport owned by PT Pelita Air Service (Pelita Air). This agreement will allow Garuda Indonesia to run maintenance for its fleet here, after previously being centralized in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.
"Through this collaboration, GMF and Pelita Air can complement each other's capabilities and expand business opportunities, especially in the development of maintenance, repair, and overhaul services," said GMF President Director, Andi Fahrurrozi, in a statement on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Andi said this collaboration is the first step in expanding cooperation between state-owned enterprises in the aviation sector. The MoU was signed on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Pondok Cabe Airport.
According to Andi, this collaboration will allow GMF to maintain ATR-type aircraft and Bell-412 helicopters, as well as strengthen its position in expanding the business portfolio in the rotary wing sector.
Pelita Air President Director, Dendy Kurniawan, mentioned that the strategic partnership with GMF reflects the spirit of synergy among state-owned enterprises in strengthening the national aviation ecosystem and optimizing the utilization of existing resources.
He emphasized that this collaboration is part of the effort to bring added value to the national aviation industry by prioritizing efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. "We believe that a solid collaboration will be an important foundation in enhancing the competitiveness and self-reliance of the Indonesian aviation industry," said Dendy.
Earlier, the President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, announced the prospect for a merger between Pelita Air and Garuda Indonesia. Simon said this merger is part of Pertamina's focus on developing its business in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.
"We will focus on Pertamina's core business. Some businesses will be spun off and possibly under the coordination of Danantara," Simon said during a Hearing with the House of Representatives Commission VI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Pelita Air is a subsidiary of Pertamina engaged in scheduled commercial aviation with medium services, as well as unscheduled flights for business and government needs. The merger talks between the two airlines have been widely discussed since the beginning of this year.
Garuda Indonesia has acknowledged that it has explored corporate merger actions with Pelita Air. Garuda's management stated that the merger plan is still in the early stages.
