TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party Secretary-General Muhammad Sarmuji stated that the meeting of political party secretaries-general within Prabowo's governing coalition on Thursday night, August 13, was merely a casual gathering.
He noted that the gathering, hosted by Gerindra Party Secretary-General Sugiono, served as a space for discussion and reflection on national efforts leading up to Indonesia's 81st Independence Day celebrations.
"There was nothing particularly special about last night's meeting," Sarmuji told reporters at the parliamentary complex on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that attendees did touch upon political issues during the meeting. He added, however, that the talks were informal and held no major weight.
In fact, he continued, the conversation focused primarily on reflection, specifically regarding areas the coalition must improve to fulfill national independence goals.
"[In-depth political discussion?] Perhaps that will be addressed in the next meeting," said the head of the Golkar Party Faction in the House of Representatives (DPR).
On Thursday evening, August 13, a day ahead of the MPR Annual Session, secretaries-general of the parties backing President Prabowo Subianto's administration convened at the official residence of Gerindra Secretary-General Sugiono in the Widya Chandra complex, South Jakarta.
Democratic Party Secretary-General Herman Khaeron, who attended the event, explained that the gathering, held at Sugiono's official residence as Foreign Minister, was simply a reunion, given that coalition leaders had not met in quite some time.
However, he acknowledged that participants did talk through upcoming political agendas during the gathering. That agenda, he noted, involved aligning ideas, concepts, and stances amid varying perspectives.
"This is what we brought up last night; we are trying to navigate various upcoming issues together," Herman said at the parliamentary complex on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Herman added that among the key political topics discussed were bill revisions concerning elections, regional elections, political parties, and other strategic laws.
"These need to be aligned so that the interests of all parties are properly accommodated," noted the House Commission VI member.
