TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Countries are stepping up evacuation flights from the Middle East as the U.S.-led war with Iran disrupts global air travel.
Germany's government has departed an evacuation flight from Oman, according to the flight tracker Flightradar24, as quoted by DW.
The aircraft from Lufthansa is expected to arrive in Frankfurt before 7:30 AM local time from Muscat.
The passengers had to be transported overland to Muscat after stranded due to the U.S.-Israel war against Iran.
The German government would prioritize pregnant women, the sick, and children in the flight, according to Foreign Minister Johann Wedephul earlier in the week.
The number of stranded Germans on this flight remains unclear.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced two additional flights to rescue British nationals stranded in the Middle East, as reported by Independent.
Two flights from British Airways will operate between Muscat and London Heathrow on Friday and Saturday.
More than 1,000 British nationals on commercial flights from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) landed back in the UK on Tuesday, said Starmer.
However, a mass evacuation of the 138,000 British nationals registered in the Middle East is not expected.
Most of the commercial flights departing from Dubai and Abu Dhabi are cancelled due to the U.S.-Israel war against Iran.
Furthermore, citing France24, a Russian emergency flight evacuated 117 citizens, including 54 children, who had left Iran overland for Azerbaijan.
France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States also organized special evacuation flights from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
