TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has announced the registration procedures for the commemoration ceremony of the Proclamation of Independence, which includes the lowering of the red and white flag, to be held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on August 17, 2025, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day.

The ceremony held in the Merdeka Palace courtyard provides the public with an opportunity to witness this historical event firsthand.

The Presidential Palace has opened opportunities for people who want to be part of this celebration through the website pandang.istanapresiden.go.id. Although the registration page cannot be accessed until 8:50 AM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the site provides complete information on the requirements and registration procedures for interested individuals.

Vice Minister of State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro revealed that President Prabowo Subianto is committed to making this year's Independence Day celebration more festive and inclusive. Around 8,000 people will be invited to attend, with 80 percent of them being members of the general public. The ceremony will also feature activities such as a carnival and a people's party, which people of all backgrounds can enjoy.

"Our goal is to reduce the number of officials and provide more opportunities for the general public to be directly involved in this celebration," Juri said in a press conference on August 1, 2025.

After the proclamation of independence ceremony, the Presidential Palace will hold a People's Party where various dishes, food, and drinks will be provided for free. Street vendors who typically sell around Merdeka Palace and the National Monument will offer culinary delights to the public.

For those who do not have the opportunity to attend the Palace, the Committee for Indonesian Independence Day will also host a public celebration in Monas, Jakarta, on August 17. The event will feature various competitions, stage entertainment, and free culinary offerings from SMEs. A fireworks display will light up the night of Independence.

Although the government has not officially announced the registration date, based on previous years' experiences, registration usually begins around ten days before the event, in early to mid-August. To avoid missing out, the public is advised to regularly check the pandang.istanapresiden.go.id website.
