How Serious Is Marc Marquez's Injury After the MotoGP Indonesia Crash?

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ducati Lenovo Team Manager Davide Tardozzi said the exact nature of Marc Marquez’s shoulder injury will only be determined after the seven-time MotoGP world champion undergoes a medical examination in Madrid on Monday evening, October 6, 2025.

Marquez crashed on the first lap of the Indonesian MotoGP on Sunday, October 5, after colliding with Marco Bezzecchi at Turn 7 of the Mandalika Circuit. The Ducati rider was thrown off his bike and was seen holding his right arm as soon as he stood up, signaling a potentially serious injury.

Unfortunately, Marc had a bad crash and it seems there could be a break in the collarbone. But we have to wait until tomorrow afternoon in Madrid and see what the [CT scan] will say to know exactly what’s happened,” Tardozzi told Crash.

“I hope that it is less than what we see here. But it seems that something happened.“

While Tardozzi suggested the possibility of a fractured bone, Marquez himself hinted at muscle tissue damage in his shoulder.

I again hit the right arm. This time it’s the collarbone. It looks like the collarbone ligament is broken. But let’s see, we need to understand in Madrid,” he said.

Marquez’s body language after the incident led to speculation of a shoulder dislocation — a previous injury that had sidelined him for several seasons. Shoulder dislocations are often accompanied by ligament damage and typically require longer recovery periods.

Having undergone four operations for a broken right arm after his crash at Jerez in MotoGP 2020, Marquez said he is now more cautious in his decisions on track. “I’ll listen to the doctors and then try to come back as soon as possible, but inside the recovery [time],” he said.

Bezzecchi Criticized for Hasty Maneuver

Tardozzi also addressed Bezzecchi’s role in the crash, suggesting the Italian rider acted too hastily.

My point of view? I think Marco did a fantastic weekend, until the first lap of the race, because he showed that he was the fastest,“ he said.

“But I think he must think a bit more and wait. I think that he was too much in a rush. As usual, the same words; the race is not won in the first lap.“

The Ducati team manager added that Bezzecchi apologized to Marquez after the race.

They spoke and Marco twice said ‘I'm sorry’ to Marc.,” Tardozzi added.

Despite losing Marquez for the remainder of the weekend, Ducati celebrated a historic achievement at Mandalika, securing three major titles: the Rider’s Title, Constructor’s Title, and Team Title, with four races still remaining in the season. The team now turns its focus to the upcoming MotoGP round at Phillip Island, Australia.
