TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Executive Head of Oversight of Financial Services Business Actors' Behavior, Education, and Consumer Protection at the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that they successfully saved money from scams amounting to Rp376.8 billion. "The percentage might be around two percent (of the total Rp7 trillion lost due to scams)," said Friderica as quoted by Antara on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Based on data from the Indonesian Anti-Scam Center (IASC) from November 22, 2024, to October 16, 2025, the number of fraud reports received was 299,237 with a total loss of Rp7 trillion. The number of blocked and reported accounts were 94,344 and 487,378, with a total blocked fund of Rp376.8 billion.
The top five provinces reporting scams to the IASC were West Java with 61,857 cases, DKI Jakarta 48,165 cases, East Java 40,454 cases, Central Java 32,492 cases, and Banten 20,619 cases.
Throughout November 2024 to October 2025, most scam methods were in the form of online shopping transaction fraud, which incurred losses of Rp988 billion, followed by fake call scams amounting to Rp1.31 trillion. Fraudulent investments totaled Rp1.09 trillion, job offer scams reached Rp656 billion, prize scams accrued Rp 189.91 billion, and social media scams accumulated Rp491.13 billion.
Additionally, phishing (an attempt to deceive individuals into revealing personal information) led to losses of Rp507.53 billion, while social engineering (psychological manipulation techniques to deceive victims into divulging sensitive information) resulted in losses of Rp361.26 billion. Fictitious online loans amounted to Rp40.61 billion, and the spread of Android Package Kit (APK) via WhatsApp caused losses of Rp134 billion.
"We're really handling this with very serious measures and then trying to improve the performance of this anti-scam center, so that we can protect consumers," said the figure commonly known as Kiki.
The OJK has also made arrests and enforced the law in various scam cases, along with law enforcement collaborations, and strengthening the system by integrating the banking, marketplace, and telecommunications associations, considering that many scammers exploit bank accounts and phone connections.
"And the latest development is, this is also in the finalization process, which will be included in our Cooperation Agreement. Those who report to the anti-scam center will be considered as if they have filed a complaint to the police," said Kiki.
"So, it's a good news, a great news. Thank you to the Indonesian National Police because with this recognition, people don't have to report twice to the anti-scam center and the police. It is considered as the acceptance of filing complaints to the police," said Kiki.
