The Indian army has denied reports alleging Pakistan of violating ceasefire in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir. The statement was made on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following rumors of cross-border firing along the Line of Control (LoC).

"There have been some media and social media reports regarding ceasefire violation in the Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been NO ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. Please avoid spreading unverified information," the Indian Army said in its official statement, quoted from India Today.

String of Tensions in May

Previously, there were reports of an exchange of fire between India and Pakistan in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch. According to the Hindustan Times, the clash lasted about 15 minutes, with no reported casualties.

The last violation was recorded on May 9 and 10, 2025, as border tensions escalated following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack killed 26 civilians and triggered a military response from India.

Outside the LoC, Pakistani forces were also reported to have fired at Indian Border Security Force (BSF) posts on late May 9 in the international border area of Jammu. According to a BSF official statement, the firing was responded to appropriately.

"On 09 May 2025, from about 2100 hrs, Pakistan opened fire on BSF posts in the Jammu sector without any provocation. BSF is responding in a commensurate manner, causing widespread damage to posts and assets of Pakistan Rangers along the International Boundary," the BSF statement said.

Prior to this, on May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine of what they deemed as terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan responded with missile and drone attacks on Indian territory, including an unprovoked firing incident in the Akhnoor sector on the night of May 10 and the dispatch of a drone to the Pir Panjal region.

Ceasefire Agreement Reached

Tensions eased after both sides reached a ceasefire agreement on May 10, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform.

According to reports, the agreement was reached after the Pakistani Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart, and soon thereafter the border clashes ceased.
