TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto attended the destruction of 214.84 tons of drugs worth Rp29.37 trillion at the Bhayangkara Field in South Jakarta today, Wednesday, October 29, 2025. The destroyed drugs were seized by Indonesian police last year.
According to Tempo's observation, Prabowo arrived around 01:20 p.m. local time and witnessed the evidence testing process using the rapid test method. Officers mixed the drug samples with Simon A and B reagents to detect the presence of hazardous substances. "If it turns blue, it indicates the presence of crystal meth," said an officer at the location.
Meanwhile, an orange-brown reaction indicates the presence of methamphetamine, and a change to black signals MDMA or ecstasy.
Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo mentioned that Prabowo's attendance was unexpected.
Listyo said Prabowo had previously mentioned that he would attend if there were major drug busts or destructions. "This motivates all our police force members," said Sigit.
In his speech, Sigit emphasized that drug trafficking is an extraordinary crime that threatens the younger generation. He stated that the police force has intensified socialization, patrols, and crackdowns on international and national drug rings. "We are cracking down, unveil, and arrest major networks to achieve Indonesia's goal of being drug-free," he said.
From October 2024 to October 2025, the police discovered 49,306 drug-related cases and arrested 65,572 suspects. From these busts, Sigit claimed the police saved around 629.93 million lives from potential drug abuse.
Furthermore, the police also investigated 22 money laundering cases related to drug crimes, with a total of 29 suspects. The police seized Rp221.38 billion in assets, including Rp18.88 billion in cash and movable and immovable assets worth Rp202.5 billion.
Sigit said the police also emphasize a rehabilitation approach for drug users, to allow them to be "reintegrated into society." The police have recorded 615 rehabilitation institutions across Indonesia thus far, consisting of 393 medical facilities and the rest being social institutions.
