TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two-state solution is once again the main focus in the United Nations (UN) meeting this week to resolve the Palestine-Israel conflict. Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir stated that the support for this approach is growing broader, including from countries that previously held different positions.
"From the UN meeting, there is wide support from member countries to resolve the conflict between Palestine and Israel. It is agreed that the two-state solution is the only way to solve the conflict," he told the media in Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, on Friday, August 8, 2025.
International Momentum Shifts
Arrmanatha also highlighted the shift in the stance of the UK, Canada, and France, which now recognize Palestine as a state. He referred to this as an international momentum. "The request from many countries is firstly to immediately stop the violence, provide humanitarian access, and continue the process of negotiations for the two-state solution," he said.
He added that the UN meeting also noted support for the Arab League's proposal to resolve the conflict in Gaza. "We believe that steps not in line with that cannot be tolerated and do not align with the spirit to resolve the issues between Palestine and Israel," said Arrmanatha.
UN Conference Without the U.S. and Israel
According to Al Jazeera, dozens of ministers attended the UN conference held at the headquarters in New York on July 28, but the United States and Israel boycotted the meeting. This meeting is a follow-up to the UN General Assembly's September decision to schedule the conference for 2025.
The conference, initiated by France and Saudi Arabia, was initially postponed in June following Israel's attack on Iran. Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, called on all countries to support the roadmap for the formation of a Palestinian state while ensuring the security of Israel.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reminded that the conference should be a turning point that triggers progress. "One that catalyses irreversible progress towards ending the occupation and realising our shared aspiration for a viable two-state solution," he said.
French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized that all parties must work to find ways to transition from the end of the war in Gaza towards resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, especially amid the threat of war to the region's stability and security.
"Only a political, two-state solution will help respond to the legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security. There is no alternative," he said. French President Emmanuel Macron previously stated that his country would recognize Palestine in the upcoming September session of the UN General Assembly.
