Indonesia Invites BRICS Countries to Invest in Renewable Energy Sector

5 hours ago 2

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Yuliot Tanjung offers opportunities for BRICS member countries to invest in the new and renewable energy sector in Indonesia. The investment offer in renewable energy was conveyed by him while attending the BRICS forum held in Brasilia, Brazil, on Monday, May 19, 2025.

On that occasion, Yuliot stated that Indonesia also welcomes the cooperation efforts of BRICS members, including in the energy cooperation roadmap. "We see strong opportunities to enhance collaboration with BRICS countries and cooperation partners in various fields, including sharing best practices in efforts to strengthen energy resilience," said Yuliot as quoted from a written statement on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

BRICS itself is a group of developing countries initiated by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The group aims to promote economic, social, and political development. In addition to the five countries, Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates have recently joined as members.

Yuliot stated that there are strong opportunities for Indonesia to collaborate with BRICS members in various fields such as nuclear energy development, renewable energy and smart grid, bioenergy, hydrogen, ammonia, carbon capture and storage, as well as off-grid solar power plants and hydropower.

Regarding financing aspects, Yuliot also encourages BRICS countries to explore specific financing mechanisms to support a fair and inclusive energy transition in the future. Yuliot emphasized Indonesia's strategic position that aligns with the global condition, namely the transition to clean energy.

He believes that the energy transition in Indonesia must be clean, fair, sustainable, and inclusive. This is aimed at ensuring that no one is left behind.

Yuliot also stated that the energy transition does not have to be done with a one-size-fits-all approach but must reflect national conditions, development priorities, and technological sovereignty. "We believe that BRICS has a strategic position and diversity to reshape the global energy governance. We hope to closely collaborate with all BRICS member countries in shaping a safe, fair, and sustainable future," he said.
