TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry is seeking private sector participation in the development of a feeder train for the LRT Jabodebek route connecting Dukuh Atas to Bogor, potentially utilizing a cable car or skytrain system.
"Private sector, feel free to express your interest, and we will see how to proceed," said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Transportation, Antoni Arif Priadi, during the National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Jakarta on Thursday, November 13, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
The ministry plans to extend the LRT Jabodebek service, which currently terminates at Harjamukti Station (Cibubur), to Mekarsari and its surrounding areas. The primary reason for considering cable cars or skytrains as the feeder mode for the Dukuh Atas to Bogor segment is the issue of land acquisition along the proposed route.
Project Scope and Investment
The project’s indicative financial assessment places the capital expenditure for a suspended monorail or skytrain system between Rp4.48 trillion and Rp10.61 trillion. The plan calls for an elevated structure encompassing the track and stations, spanning an estimated 21.44 kilometers. The system is projected to operate at an average speed of 40–50 km/h, achieving a travel time of approximately 30 minutes.
The financing mechanism for the LRT skytrain feeder is entirely investment-based, specifically precluding any need for direct fiscal support. The completed network is estimated to have the capacity to serve approximately 26,000 residents.
For background, the Ministry of Transportation is studying the use of skytrains to connect South Tangerang and Bogor as a feeder mode to support existing mass transportation networks, such as MRT Jakarta and LRT Jabodebek.
Focus on Efficiency and Urban Impact
Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana noted that the development of new transportation modes like cable cars is being evaluated because it could be an efficient, cost-effective solution with minimal disruption to the densely populated urban environment.
He expressed hope that the project will not only encourage the public to switch to public transportation but will also help reduce congestion and improve air quality in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
Moreover, Suntana added that a reduction in private vehicles on the road is expected to lead to a noticeable improvement in air pollution across the capital region.
