Indonesia Tipped to Win Against Pakistan in Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers

14 hours ago 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian women's national team is pursuing its second victory in Group D of the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers. They will face Pakistan at the Indomilk Arena Stadium, Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 pm Western Indonesia Time (WIB) and can be watched live on Indosiar or streaming on Vidio.

Garuda Pertiwi secured a 1-0 victory against Kyrgyzstan in their first match on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Isa Warps' solitary goal in the 66th minute determined Indonesia's victory. Meanwhile, Pakistan suffered a heavy 0-8 defeat to Taiwan.

Football analyst Kesit Budi Handoyo predicted that Satoru Mochizuki's team would be able to defeat Pakistan. "Looking at the three teams that Indonesia will face, I think Pakistan is the weakest team in this group competition," he said when contacted by Tempo on Tuesday night, July 1, 2025.

Reflecting on Pakistan's loss to Taiwan, Kesit stated that Pakistan should not be a tough opponent for Indonesia. "Considering Pakistan's heavy defeat, I think Indonesia has the upper hand on paper against Pakistan," he said.

Kesit emphasized that Garuda Pertiwi must win this match to maintain their chances of finishing as the group champions. The number of goals and victories in the match against Pakistan is crucial. "Because this will be very important in the end. Because Indonesia will ultimately face Taiwan," Kesit said.

He is optimistic that Safira Ika and her teammates will be able to dominate the game against Pakistan. Their 0-8 loss to Taiwan shows that they performed worse than Indonesia. "The important thing is to remain confident," he said.

Nevertheless, Kesit cautioned the Indonesian women's national team to be wary. "But they need to be cautious, after a loss, Pakistan will surely be extra careful," he said.

Regardless of the situation of both teams, Indonesia has the advantage as the host. A victory against Pakistan would potentially put the Garuda Pertiwi squad in a position to compete for first place in Group D of the 2026 Asian Cup Qualifiers when they face Taiwan in their final group match on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 8:00 pm WIB.

This qualifying round is contested by 34 teams divided into eight groups. Only the champion of each group will advance to the final round, which will be held in Australia in March next year. Later, the eight group champions will join the four teams that have already secured a spot: host Australia, China, South Korea, and Japan—the top three teams in the 2022 Women's Asian Cup.
