TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Team will face Taiwan for FIFA Matchday after Kuwait unilaterally canceled the game. The match will be held on September 5, 2025, three days before facing Lebanon, both of which will be hosted at Surabaya's Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, East Java, with a kick-off schedule at 08:30 p.m. local time.
Indonesia was supposed to face Kuwait on the same date, before the Kuwait FA announced that it pulled out in a letter addressed to the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on August 21.
PSSI Chair Erick Thohir lamented the cancellation, which had been planned well in advance as part of the preparations for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers in Saudi Arabia in the upcoming October.
"We are very sorry because everything had been prepared well in advance," said Erick on late Monday, August 25, 2025.
Kuwait and Lebanon were chosen because these two countries were considered to have players and a style of play almost similar to the two teams that the Garuda team will face in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, namely Saudi Arabia and Iraq, both of which are also Middle Eastern countries.
Refund Process
Following the news of the FIFA Matchday schedule change, as reported on the official PSSI website, there is an option for a refund for Garuda fans who wish to cancel their ticket purchases. But if they still want to watch the game despite a different opponent, the purchased tickets can automatically be converted into tickets for the Indonesia vs Taiwan match.
"The refund application process can be done through the link sent to the email address used during the ticket purchase transaction. If not requesting a refund, the tickets will remain valid, and no additional steps need to be taken," quoted from the PSSI website on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
