TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Chair of PSSI, Erick Thohir, is proud to see how enthusiastic people are about witnessing the final home match of the Indonesian national team in the 2026 World Cup qualification against China at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium in Jakarta on June 5.
The sold-out match tickets show the people's enthusiasm, which PSSI sold in two stages through Livin by Mandiri on May 15 and Kita Garuda on May 19. "Thank you for your extraordinary support of the Indonesian national team. We look forward to seeing you at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium," said Erick as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 20.
The capacity of the GBK Stadium is 76,000. PSSI prepared 70,000 tickets for the Indonesia national team match against China. The tickets were sold at various prices, from Rp300,000 to Rp1,750,000.
After hosting China, Indonesia will play an away match against Japan five days later. These two matches are the final matches for the Garuda team in the third round.
To face these two matches, the coach of the Indonesia national team, Patrick Kluivert, called up 32 players last Sunday. Stefano Lilipaly's name has been the most talked about as he was called back to the national team.
Lilipaly, who is 35 years old and has already earned 29 caps for the senior national team, played his last match with the Garuda team on August 9, 2023, in a friendly game against Turkmenistan, which ended in a 2-0 victory.
In addition to Lilipaly, Kluivert called back old names such as Asnawi Mangkualam, Yakob Sayuri, and Yance Sayuri. Septian Bagaskara, who did not get a chance to play in the two matches in March, was also called up again. The same goes for Reza Arya, who was called up by Shin Tae-yong two years ago but did not debut as he was on the bench.
Furthermore, Kluivert called up regular names such as Rizky Ridho, Marselino Ferdinan, Jay Idzes, and Thom Haye. Before facing China and Japan, the Indonesian national team will hold a training camp in Bali next Monday.
Currently, the Indonesian national team is in fourth place in Group C's temporary standings with nine points. The Garuda team is below Saudi Arabia (10 points), Australia (13 points), and the leader of the standings, Japan (20 points). Meanwhile, with six points, China is in sixth place, tied with Bahrain but with a better goal difference.
The Garuda team still has a chance to directly qualify for the 2026 World Cup final round by finishing in second place, although the chance is slim. The biggest opportunity is to go through the fourth round of the Asia zone qualification by finishing in third or fourth place.
