TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate of Special Economic Crimes at the Indonesian National Police has named three more suspects in the fake rice fiasco. The suspects are from PT Padi Indonesia Maju (PIM).
Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf, the Director of Special Economic Crimes, said the three suspects are S, the President Director of PT PIM; AI, the Factory Manager; and DO, the Quality Control Manager.
"Based on the investigation findings, the investigators have conducted a case review and found sufficient evidence to designate these three individuals as suspects according to their roles and actions," Helfi said at a press conference at the Indonesian National Police Headquarters on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Helfi explained that the modus operandi of the suspects was to produce and trade premium rice that failed to meet the SNI Premium Rice Standard No. 6128:2020 established by the Minister of Agriculture Regulation No. 31 of 2017 on Rice Quality Classes and the Head of Bapanas Regulation No. 2 of 2023 on Rice Quality and Label Requirements. "The premium rice brands Sania, Fortune, Sofia, and SIP did not meet the quality standards on the packaging label," Helfi added.
Helfi said that the Police Food Task Force had also seized 13,740 sacks of rice and 58.9 tons of broken premium rice under the Sania, Fortune, Sofia, and SIP brands in 2.5kg and 5kg packages.
The police also seized large broken rice in sacks amounting to 53,150 tons and small broken rice amounting to 5,750 tons, as well as legal documents and supporting certificates. "Furthermore, a set of rice production machines, including a drying section, a husking section, a milling section, a blending section, and a packing section, were seized," Helfi added.
The suspects are charged with consumer protection criminal acts and/or money laundering by trading rice products that do not meet the quality standards at the packaging level. They are facing five years in prison and a fine of Rp2 billion. Under the Anti-Money Laundering Law, the penalty is up to 20 years in prison and a fine of Rp10 billion. "The Police Food Task Force urges the suspects and relevant parties in this case to cooperate during the investigation process," Helfi stated.
Indonesian police have now named a total of six suspects in the adulterated rice case. They are three senior officials of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, namely the President Director of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya Karyawan Gunarso (KG), the Operational Director of PT Tjipinang Jaya Ronny Lisapaly (RL), and the Quality Control Section Head of PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya with the initials RP.
