TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, that Iran is suspending its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), according to a report by the state-run Press TV, as cited by Anadolu.
The semi-official Tasnim news agency also reported that the president has approved a new law obliging the government to cut ties with the IAEA.
The Iranian parliament passed the legislation last week, mandating the suspension of cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog.
The decision follows heightened tensions between Tehran and the IAEA over inspection access and transparency. These tensions intensified after recent military confrontations involving Israel and the United States.
A 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran broke out on June 13 when Israel carried out sudden airstrikes targeting civilian apartments, military facilities, and nuclear sites in Iran. In response, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks. The United States later joined the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities.
