TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that nearly all areas of Jakarta will experience partly cloudy skies throughout the day this Monday, August 17, 2026—coinciding with Indonesia's Independence Day.
Via its Instagram account @infobmkg, the BMKG announced that West, Central, South, East, and North Jakarta are predicted to be partly cloudy from morning through night.
The Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) will also be partly cloudy this morning and into the afternoon, turning clear at night.
The temperature in the Jakarta area today is 28 degrees Celsius.
Previously, the BMKG reported that the 2026 El Nino phenomenon has become active and has the potential to reach a very strong level.
This condition is predicted to trigger a drier and more prolonged dry season across most of Indonesia, thereby increasing the risk of drought and various impacts on strategic sectors.
Consequently, there is a need to strengthen national mitigation and preparedness measures.
The mitigation efforts being undertaken focus not only on drought but also serve as part of the preparations to face potential wet hydrometeorological disasters at the end of the year.
