TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Sulawesi and Java recorded the highest economic growth among all Indonesian regions in the second quarter of 2025.
“Spatially, the two regions with the highest economic growth are Sulawesi and Java,” said BPS Deputy for Balance and Statistical Analysis, Moh Edy Mahmud, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Sulawesi’s economy grew by 5.83 percent year-on-year, while Java posted a 5.24 percent increase. Both figures were higher than the national economic growth rate, which stood at 5.12 percent year-on-year during the same period.
Edy explained that growth in both regions was largely driven by the manufacturing sector. In Sulawesi, agriculture and mining also played a significant role.
Meanwhile, in Java, trade and the information and communication sector were key contributors alongside manufacturing.
“The main sources of growth in Java are the manufacturing industry, trade, and infocom. The province with the largest contribution to growth was Jakarta, at 1.45 percent year-on-year,” Edy said.
