TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The light rail transit, or LRT Jabodebek, is seeing a spike in passengers due to the rally taking place around the parliament complex in Jakarta, which prompted traffic diversion. This was confirmed by the Executive Vice President of the LRT Jabodebek Division, Mochamad Purnomosidi.
"(The protest) significantly impacts our passenger count," he said during a media discussion in Menteng, Jakarta, on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
But he did not specify the exact percentage of the growth in LRT Jabodebek passengers as a result of the protest. Despite this, he said they do not wish for demonstrations to occur in order to boost passenger count.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Manager, Mahendro Trang Bawono, said LRT Jabodebek is ready to provide a solution in case of disturbances in other modes of transportation.
"Indeed, when there are disturbances in other modes of transportation, we are always ready to provide an alternative. However, we do not wish for protests or public unrest," he said.
He mentioned that LRT Jabodebek seeks to support the government in creating an interconnected and supportive transportation ecosystem. When other modes of transportation face difficulties, LRT Jabodebek can complement them. "So, we are not competitors, and we do not wish for disruptions in other modes of transportation, but we are always ready to support," he said.
