Ministry to Assign Pertamina to Roll Out Unified 3 Kg LPG Price by 2026

7 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) plans to appoint PT Pertamina (Persero) to implement a unified pricing program for 3-kilogram (kg) LPG cylinders, which is set to take effect nationwide in 2026.

Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of the Ministry, said the plan is currently under evaluation. He declined to disclose the expected price range for 3 kg LPG under the new scheme.

“We’re still assessing the situation to ensure that prices can be equalized across all regions. It’s feasible, and Pertamina will be in charge of carrying it out,” he said during an event at Artotel Mangkuluhur in Jakarta on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

He explained that the goal of the unified pricing policy is to make LPG more affordable and consistent in all parts of the country, especially in remote areas where prices have been significantly higher.

Until now, the highest retail price (HET) for 3 kg LPG has been set by regional governments, leading to wide price disparities. In some remote locations, for example, Dadan noted that a single cylinder can cost as much as Rp50,000.

He also said the new policy will streamline monitoring and distribution. With standardized pricing, the central government will have better control and be able to curb overpricing in the market.

“The Minister believes that supervision will be more straightforward if prices are uniform. We’ve seen some unreasonable prices in the field,” he said.

However, Dadan noted that the government still needs to finalize several supporting regulations before the policy can be rolled out. These include revisions to two presidential regulations that form the legal basis for LPG distribution: Presidential Regulation No. 104 of 2007, which outlines the mechanism for LPG pricing and provision, and Presidential Regulation No. 38 of 2019, which regulates LPG distribution for targeted fishermen and farmers.

If all preparations go as planned, the new pricing policy will be implemented starting in 2026, ensuring that 3 kg LPG costs the same across the country regardless of region.

“The Minister’s directive is clear. A unified price means one price for all of Indonesia, no longer varying by region,” Dadan said.
