TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi and her Japanese partner Eri Hozumi overcame a tense start in the opening round of Wimbledon.
Playing on Court 10 at the All England Club in London on Thursday, July 3, 2025, the pair secured a victory over the Australian-Bulgarian duo Ajla Tomljanovic and Viktoriya Tomova with a score of 7-6(6), 6-2.
Aldila and Hozumi faced a tough challenge in the first set tie-break, falling behind 0-6 before mounting an incredible comeback by winning eight straight points to take the set. The second set unfolded more smoothly as they took control early. Although Tomljanovic and Tomova attempted to close the gap, Aldila and Hozumi maintained their momentum and closed out the match in straight sets.
In the second round on Friday, July 4, Aldila and Hozumi are scheduled to face the 14th-seeded pair Ekaterina Alexandrova and Zhang Shuai. Speaking ahead of Wimbledon, Aldila said the transition from clay to grass courts had improved following three weeks of practice and competition on grass.
Their grass-court preparations began in mid-June at the 2025 Libema Open in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
There, the duo advanced to the semifinals of the WTA 250 tournament but fell in a close match against second seeds Irina Khromacheva and Fanny Stollar. The match ended 6-4, 3-6, 8-10 after a thrilling super tie-break.
Aldila and Hozumi then moved on to the Nottingham Open in England, where they reached the quarterfinals before being defeated by top seeds Zhang Shuai and Hsieh Su Wei.
The following week, they competed in the 2025 Eastbourne Open but were once again stopped in the quarterfinals. This time, they lost to the British duo Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden.
