The Moroccan U-20 national team made history by winning the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup after defeating Argentina 2-0 in the final held at the National Stadium in Santiago, Chile, on Monday morning WIB (Western Indonesian Time), October 20, 2025. Yassir Zabiri scored two goals in the first half to lead his team to victory.

Zabiri, who plays for FC Famalicao in the top tier of Portugal, opened the scoring for Morocco in the 12th minute, as reported by FIFA's official website. His curling shot into the top corner of the net could not be stopped by goalkeeper Santino Barbi.

Under the guidance of Mohamed Ouahbi, the team doubled their lead in the 29th minute. Ismael Baouf won the ball and passed it to Othmane Maamma, who then set it up for Zabiri to finish with a volley into the net.

Zabiri's two goals made Morocco the second African team to win this competition after Ghana emerged as the winner in the 2009 edition.

Morocco advanced to the round of 16 as the champions of Group C with six points, having secured 2-0 victories against Spain and a 2-1 win over Brazil, but suffered a 0-1 loss to Mexico. In this group, Brazil was eliminated in the group stage.

Next, they eliminated South Korea with a 2-1 victory to reach the quarterfinals. They then defeated the United States 3-1 to advance to the semifinals. After that, Morocco defeated France in a penalty shootout of 5-4 following a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, Argentina advanced to the knockout stage as the champions of Group D, collecting a perfect nine points. They won against Cuba 3-1, Australia 4-1, and Italy 1-0.

Subsequently, under the management of Diego Placente, they defeated Nigeria 4-0 to move on to the quarterfinals and then overcame Mexico 2-0 to reach the semifinals. They later won 1-0 against Colombia to progress to the final.

Prior to the final match, Argentina, with a record of six-time champions, was more favored to win the tournament. However, most people's predictions were proved wrong. Morocco was not expected to emerge as the winner.
