TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian police have deployed a total of 1,722 personnel to secure the pro-Palestine rally held at the National Monument (Monas) area today, Sunday, October 12, 2025. In addition to security measures, the deployment is also aimed at regulating traffic in the affected area. "If the escalation increases, we will close the South Merdeka Street, and redirect the traffic flow," said the Chief of Metro Jakarta Pusat Police Commissioner Besar Susatyo Purnomo Condro in a written statement.
Susatyo advises road users to avoid the Monas area for the time being. People who will pass through the area from the Horse Statue to Monas can take the road in front of the Egyptian Embassy.
According to Tempo observations, the participants in today's pro-Palestine rally were dressed in white and black outfits. They carried attributes such as slayers and Palestinian flags.
The rally is a collaboration of several community organizations, youth groups, and students. It is held to support the ceasefire plan in Gaza, Palestine.
Syauki Hafiz, the committee of the rally titled "Indonesia Against Genocide," stated that the rally is held to commemorate the three-year Israeli attacks on the Gaza population. "We want Indonesia to be actively involved, to ensure that genocide does not happen again, ceasefire violations do not recur, and there will be no more wars in Gaza," he said in a written statement on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
During the rally, the participants will also demand the promise of President Prabowo Subianto who declared readiness to send 20,000 peacekeeping troops to Gaza. The troop deployment must not be delayed. "It is feared that the time gap will be used by Israel to launch military operations again," he said.
Syauki hopes that the deployment of 20,000 Indonesian peacekeeping troops can be realized soon to oversee the ceasefire process and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid. In addition to demanding the active role of the Indonesian government, Syauki highlights the responsibility of the international community in safeguarding permanent peace in Palestine. "The world is responsible for maintaining the ceasefire and ending the genocide, as well as rebuilding Gaza," he said.
